A perfect spot to get breakfast! The breakfast burrito is delicious!! Don't forget to try the pancakes too!! You won't be disappointed and the staff is super friendly and attentive. You won't regret eating here!
Staying in Lake Arrowhead a couple days and used Yelp to help find good places to eat. That said, Old Country Coffee Shop popped up as a local, established, family run joint with good food and I'll be damned if it was just that! Parking is tight but once you're in you know you made a good choice. Set up like a classic coffee shop - counter service, heavy coffee mugs, the cooks slinging hash out in the open, booths line the walls, big windows so you can watch everyday life passing by, and you guessed it - Great Food! I had the Machaca breakfast - scrambled eggs, machaca, onions, green peepers served with potatoes and pinto beans and your choice of tortillas. A very generous portion I might add. The wife had a veggie omelette, a side of bacon, and a half order of biscuits and gravy. I like to use B&G as a measure of a good breakfast place and oh my was it good. The gravy was creamy, not greasy, imparted a flavor that I can't quite put my finger on but was savory and worked perfectly with the fresh baked, pillowy soft biscuit.....maybe the best I've ever had! By the way, clearly a family restaurant, all working together, each playing a pivotal role in the operation, delivering on a level of kindness and service that makes you feel how much they appreciate you, the customer. I would eat here everyday if I lived up here. Oh, and the restrooms were clean, another sign of owners who care.
This is a family run, little diner/coffee shop that has truly lasted through the decades. I give them a 10/10 for excellent, friendly customer service. The place appeared neat and orderly as well. It is quite small, but comfortable. I was quite impressed that the staff was so engaging. I chose a small chicken taco that came with beans and rice. The rice was good, as was the beans. The chicken was not great though and was rather dry. I noticed (too late) that they had quite a variety of pies. I certainly would have chosen the Forest Berry slice rather than my taco plate. Oh well. I am sure this place is busy during snow season, being so tiny. The family did great and I am glad that we stopped in for a quick bite.
My food was devoured in less than 60 seconds haha. I have zero photos of my meal bc it was inhaled with gusto. I had pancakes, eggs, bacon, and hasbrowns with my bestie. Everything we devoured was sinful. We sat at the dining bar and were welcomed with outstanding service, friendly smiles, and conversation. So grateful we stopped in and stumbled upon this coffee shop. The ambiance is clean and it's busy. If you're in town, looking for a sit down breakfast that's tasty and affordable, look no further. You've found an amazing diner that serves a mean cup of Joe with the best pancakes.
You can't fake a great diner and Old Country Coffee Shop is the real deal!! All day breakfast was the right move even at prime "lunch time" eating hour. I got the Country Fried Steak and Eggs. The gravy was toooo tasty!! And the pancakes are hyped for a reason! They're on the "cakey" side of pancake but delicious. Diner in the mountains? I'm all about that!
